The department says that shortly after 7 a.m. they received a call about a white male who was hitting cars with a metal pole. The department says that officers saw the man when they made contact. Wednesdays incident marked the first shooting by Escondido police since last year, when an officer opened fire on a man charging him with a crow bar.
